Burj Al Arab Session

The Burj Al Arab hotel, a contemporary icon of Dubai's fast-changing skyline, represents to many the Gulf's over-abundant leisure economy. Juel, however, visualizes the architecture as an extension of the Golden Ratio. In a series of four oil paintings, a coiled seashell unfurls to reveal a scaffold of glass and steel. At its base, an eye grows open to transmit the full vision. Juel idiosyncratically imagines a sea creature embodying the legendary building. Juel reinvents the building not as the clash of a divided culture but as an energetic natural force that blooms upon the creative unconscious mind.
